ABOUT YOUR JOURNAL
You will turn in a journal each Friday. Each week, your journal should contain at least 20 sentences. The 20 sentences can be divided into 2 or 3 smaller entries, or one large entry. You can write more than 20 sentences, but not less.

Journals should be in a lined 8.5" x 11" notebook that you use only for this purpose. You should leave every other line blank so I can comment and edit easily.

What can you write about? Almost anything:
  • What happens to you every day.
  • Your thoughts and feelings being in the U.S.
  • Challenges or successes you had in using English.
  • Reactions to news stories you see or books or articles that you read.
  • Stories from your past.
  • Short essays you write for extra practice.
  • Other ideas.

I suggest trying to challenge yourself as you write these. Use new grammatical forms and vocabulary words that we learn about in class. Try writing small practice essays or summaries of academic talks you hear. You will get a 100% just for trying. I grade your journals on completion, so if you write 20 original (e.g., not copied from another author), connected sentences, you will get a 100% on the assignment. I will also generate a weekly error log for you with things you should watch out for in your writing.
