GOALS FOR WEEK 1
By the end of this week, you will:
  1. Understand the goals and requirements of this course.
  2. Get to know your classmates and your teacher and how to email them appropriately.
  3. Understand what textbooks, materials, and online systems you need to obtain for this class.
  4. Take a variety of diagnostic tests to make sure you are in the right level.
  5. Understand what plagiarism is and what the consequences are for cheating in the U.S.
  6. Discuss elements of good summary writing.
  7. Understand the resources available to you at the LRC.
MONDAY
First day of classes:
-Review syllabus
-Welcome presentation
-Review website
-Reading/Writing Diagnostic


HOMEWORK
-Buy textbooks at bookstore
and set up online systems.

-Review syllabus to see if you have any questions
-Complete "Tell Me about Yourself" sheet.

-Journal, due Friday (Open topic--suggested idea: "What I hope to accomplish this semester.")





TUESDAY
-Name game
-Journal guidelines
-Writing diagnostic

HOMEWORK
-Buy textbooks at bookstore
and set up online systems.

-Communicating professionally with your professors
-Diagnostic grammar test

-Write a one-paragraph summary of an article from Upfront (not the short ones we did for read-around and not the one you want to use for your summary-response journal next Friday) to turn in on Tuesday.
-Buy textbooks at bookstore and bring Reading Explorer to class on Tuesday.

-Start Reading Explorer Chapter 1 online homework.
