GOALS FOR WEEK 1
By the end of this week, you will:
  1. Understand the goals and requirements of this course.
  2. Get to know your classmates and your teacher.
  3. Understand some of the features common to popular music.
  4. Learn special words and terms needed to discuss music and poetry.
  5. Discuss what "individualism" means and how it is important to American culture.
  6. Analyze songs by Meghan Trainor, Taylor Swift, and Sara Bareilles.
MONDAY

TUESDAY
-Welcome presentation
-Review syllabus
-Analyze "Me, Too"  by Meghan Trainor

HOMEWORK

-Listen to "Me, Too" again and sing along to the words! Do you understand all the lyrics? Bring any questions to class on Thursday.

WEDNESDAY

THURSDAY
-Discussion of special music and poetry terms
-Analyze "Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift and "Brave" by Sara Bareilles.
-Info about Swift and Bareilles


HOMEWORK
-Pick a song by an English-speaking pop artist of your choice to analyze and complete the Song Analysis Form. Try to find a song that shows confidence or individualism! Bring a printed copy of the completed form on Tuesday to turn in.
